Publisher's Synopsis
A Normal Christmas by Sallie Powell
A light hearted 'hyper-PARA-thyroid' adaption of 'A Christmas Carol', created in the hope of getting across a very serious message to clinicians, created to raise awareness about the benefits of surgery for normocalcemic primary hyperparathyroidism, a very common endocrine disease which is sadly undertreated. The main character in 'A Normal Christmas' is a very kind parathyroid surgeon about to experience a very different Christmas Eve after a very different 2020.There are of course, the three ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future, although none like you've come across in other adaptations, as well as a lovely dog named Bella. This is of course, a fictional story based loosely on true cases.. There are some medical studies contained in Chapter Six to show that the misunderstanding of normocalcemic PHPT isn't fictional at all. A Normal Christmas has a happy ending. That's all we as patients are looking for. Our happy ending. I have included nine case stories written entirely by hyperparathyroid patients. Many other real case stories can be found at hyperparathyroiduk.com.
